Great opportunity for all walker's interested in Navigation skills.

You will see from the schedule we have a navigation training day planned for the 25th of this month. The purpose of the day is to give members an opportunity to learn map reading and navigation skills from some of the more experienced members in the club. Objectives: Give members the opportunity to learn map reading and navigation skills Encourage members to go forward and undertake Mountain Skills 1 & 2. Identify and encourage future walk leaders for the club The club strongly encourages members to undertake training to enable them acquire the fundamental skills of navigation and hill walking. In this regard the club will cover 40% of the cost of undertaking the mountain skills course and assessment. We also continuously need new walk leaders to enable the club provide the range and frequency of scheduled walks into the future. The 25th march provides an opportunity to find out what is involved in undertaking further training for anyone interested. What will be covered on the day: The day will be tailored to meet the experience of members attending and while not exhaustive some of the things we will look to cover will be: - Reading your map …identifying features, understanding contours, scale etc - Setting your map…based on features around you, using your compass - Self locating - Navigating using your map - Navigating using your compass - Timing and distance What will I need: - Normal hill walking gear for a day (typically 4 hrs) on the hills - Ordnance survey map 74 - Compass…recommended Silva type 4.
